Windows 2000 high cpu usage
Hello, This CPU issue is probably graphic-related, we had the same problems with previous releases. Did it happen when there's no file loaded too? Posted: Mon Feb 12, pm Post subject:.
Hi, Yes, it might have something to do with the cursor. The cursor is flickering, even in an empty window. Hope this helps, Arno Rog. The cursor flickering is normal but shouldn't be so noticable. The original physical box was a single cpu with hyperthreading. Having also converted several servers I would suggest its definately an issue with only.
The error is in vSphere. Since it was our DB server, I wasn't comfortable with reducing any of the hardware settings since it's such an old system. I didn't feel like messing with something that was working okay. Everything seems to be fine, people complain about our ERP being slow, but that's really no difference between now and when it was physical.
As I said, I'm hoping to upgrade soon and was just curious why I was seeing this difference. The problem with multiple vCPUs assigned is that the scheduler actually has to wait for 4 separate cores to be ready. Check the CPU ready time for that guest. If it's high, then reducing the vCPUs to 1 can actually raise your performance.
The system won't wait for 4 cores, it'll ask for a compute cycle and get it immediately. It's like ordering 4 drinks at a bar and needing to wait for 4 bartenders to all be free at the same time to make the drinks in parallel. Oftentimes it's faster to have one bartender make all the drinks, one after the other.
Or start one drink with bartender 1, the next drink with bartender 2 when he's ready, etc. Looking at that article and checking my performance, the ready time for the cores seems pretty low: avg.
